Dinky Toys No. 101 Thunderbird 2 (1973 green-blue reissue)
The 1973 reissue of the 101 in a darker green-blue — the first of Dinky’s “blue” Thunderbird 2s.
About this item
In 1973 Dinky reissued its Thunderbird 2 “not in its traditional green, but in a darkly coated shade of green-blue”, according to the official Gerry Anderson blog. The blog notes that Gerry Anderson later said Dinky told him market research showed children were reluctant to buy green toys — but that there is “no definitive answer” as to why the colour changed.
How to identify it
Same casting and number as the 1967 green model; the colour is the difference.
